The Jenesse center is a project for women and children who are living in houses with domestic violence and need a way out and a support system. Although they are known mainly for their shelters, they also provide:
-counselling (mental health)
-legal assistance
-health care
-crisis hotline (available 24/7)
As mentioned before Halle Berry lived in a household where domestic abuse was a common thing. This made her feel as though she had an obligation to give her help and her donations to such a worthy cause. Halle started her own project within the Jenesse center called "What a Little Love Can Do". As mentioned above in the video, this project is all about helping to rebuild shelters where women and children feel comfortable staying after traumatizing incidents. This gives them a happy and safe place to stay. A big part of Halle's project was making an inviting place for kids to go and to relax; they are affected by domestic abuse just as much as anyone else. They are being torn away from their homes and families and need somewhere that they can rely on to be their safe place. Not only did Halle donate her funds to this project but her time. She didn't just make a donation and let someone else take care of it, she was there every step of the way. This cause means a lot to her personally, so her chance to be a part of it means a great deal. She said this is important to her because she wants to make sure that what happened to her never happens to anyone else. Halle Berry has been working with the Jenesse Center for over a decade now, and does everything in her power to help provide for those who have suffered domestic violence.
In 2011 Halle also ran the "Halle Berry Celebrity Golf Classic" as a way to raise awareness and money for the Jenesse center. This event is referred to as "The Silver Rose Weekend" where those who would like to donate or learn a little more about what the Jenesse Center does, are welcome to come and be a part of a wonderful weekend. Hundreds of thousands of dollars are made, and all to support this very worthy cause.
